About

A musician with an eclectic background, Laurent Bigot currently creates pieces on devices of his invention.

He also practices improvisation using these same devices, and composes electroacoustic music.

For several years he has been working around everyday or recycled objects, with the idea of giving life to these objects, which generates sounds and movements, and of playing with these “uncivilized” partners.

He currently performs as a soloist, or collaborates with other artists such as Pascal Battus, Camille Emaille, David Chiesa, and Lionel Palun.

His productions have been performed in more than twenty-five countries. Their words sparked invitations to music festivals (Sonic Protest in Paris, Le Bruit de la Musique (Creuse), Audio Art Festival of Krakow, Uppercut Festival in Bordeaux, Festival Aujourd’hui Musique in Perpignan, Lieu Multiple in Poitiers, Densités Festival, Musique Action, Kontakte Festival in Berlin, Ring Ring Festival in Belgrade, etc.) as well as in object theater festivals (Mima in Mirepoix, Chicago International Puppet Festival, Les Machines in Nantes, etc.), museums (Museum of Modern Art in Saint-Etienne, National Gallery of Art in Washington, LAM in Lille, Serralvès Foundation in Porto, etc.), or in multidisciplinary festivals.

I am sensitive to the intersections of sound and visual worlds, to developments which are apprehended a priori with the eyes, and at the same time construct a universe for the ears.
Movements generate sounds, but visual and auditory perceptions of the same event can trigger very different imaginations. I love building and playing with it.

I am interested in the sonic potential of objects, and their evocative power on a visual level.
To make them sound I make them autonomous (or as if!). The objects in action are then makers of sounds, poetry, sometimes humor and meaning.

It’s tempting to play with them. However, they are clever and unpredictable partners. The resulting music feeds on the instability and fragility of these moving objects, but is it itself unstable and fragile ?

What the ear hears is not what the eye sees…
Action provokes sound, sound distracts action. Improvisation, chance of mechanics…
